Biden, who took oath as the 46th President of the US, has sent a bill, called US Citizenship Act 2021, to the Congress that aims to give legal status and citizenship to undocumented immigrants.
Newly elected Joe Biden’s immigration reforms have been applauded by IT giants, including Google and Apple, in the country who said that the move will boost the American economy and create jobs.
Biden, who took oath as the 46th President of the US, has sent a bill, called US Citizenship Act 2021, to the Congress that aims to give legal status and citizenship to undocumented immigrants.
The bill also proposes to eliminate the per country cap for employment-based green cards, a move that would benefit thousands of Indian IT professionals whose current wait period for legal permanent residency runs into several decades.
Lauding the bill, Google CEO Sundar Pichai said that it has supported action on COVID relief, Paris climate accord and immigration reform and is looking “forward to working with the new administration to help the US recover from the pandemic”.
Apple CEO Tim Cook also welcomed Biden’s move and said that his “commitment to pursuing comprehensive immigration reform that reflects the American values of justice, fairness and dignity”.
“This effort will strengthen American communities and the pathways to opportunity this country has long fostered,” he said.
US tech companies like Apple, Google and Microsoft employ a huge number of IT professionals from countries like India and China.
